Our History

Celebrating 25 Years of Service to the Greater Rochester Community

Founded in 1978 by seven volunteer counselors and a few courageous clients, Agape has developed into a mature counseling agency, offering a wide range of services to the Rochester community and upstate New York.

Begun under the auspices of Brighton Community Church, Agape moved through typical developmental stages, developing some autonomy at age two by charging fees and paying staff, then developing further identity at age four when Agape incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

From there the agency moved into adolescence as we renovated and rented more suitable office space, and began a courtship with Pearce Memorial Church that resulted in an established site for the Westside branch. As an adult organization now, we continue to expand our vision in services, personnel, and locations but our mission remains the same - to be burden bearers with the wounded.
